Although not as common as water puppetry, terrestrial puppetry is always a special attraction. The most famous of which is terrestrial puppetry in Tham Roc village, Binh Yen commune and Ru Nghe village, Dong Thinh commune, Dinh Hoa district, Thai Nguyen. This is the unique culture of ethnic Tay which has appeared more than two hundred years ago and exists to this day.

Terrestrial puppetry is usually performed by Tay peopl on the beginning of the year, Long tong festival, which aims to entertain the public, along with the expressed desire to pray for good weather, crops lush, aspired to the honor of passing the exam of the villagers.

Through this art performance, performers convey the message of loving labor, praising the people taking care of production, decrying the lazy, advising people know and keep morality of “drinking water and remember the source”, solidarity in productive labor and everyday life, cherishing the agriculture and rural building with a prosperous, happy family, prosperity and social development.
